About this handbook
Online Betting Kenya explains how online betting works in Kenya from the moment you open an account to the day you are paid, one section of the Gambling Control Act, 2025 at a time. It is a reference book, not a betting site: it names the rule, says where the rule lives, and stops there. Nobody is paid to be mentioned and nobody is linked.
What the site does
The site takes the questions a bettor in Kenya meets in an ordinary week and answers each one from the primary text. Which checks happen before a first deposit. What the minimum stake is and who sets it. How many days an operator has to pay out, and what happens on day fifteen. What comes off a deposit as excise and off a withdrawal as withholding tax. How M-Pesa and Airtel Money limits sit next to the operator's own limits. How to set a deposit limit, and how to shut the door completely with self-exclusion.
The answers are organised as six chapters, each with its own coloured tab on the edge of every page, and condensed into a rule finder that maps everyday questions to the section of the Act, the regulation or the tax paragraph that answers them. Every guide ends with the documents it was read from and the date they were read.
What the site is not
It is not the regulator. The regulator is the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Kenya, created by section 6(1) of the Act as the legal successor of the Betting Control and Licensing Board under section 6(3). This site has no power to license, inspect or decide anything.
It is not an operator. Section 28(1) of the Act bars any gambling activity or service that is not licensed under the Act. This site holds no licence, takes no bets, opens no accounts and moves no money.
It is not a review site. There are no rankings, no ratings, no scores, no bonus offers and no hyperlinks to any operator. Where an operator's name has to appear, it appears as plain text, spelled as the regulator's own list spells it.
It is not legal advice. A page here describes what a section says as read on the date shown. Your own case may turn on facts a page cannot know. For a dispute, the operator's customer care centre, the Authority and the Gambling Appeals Tribunal under section 88 are the routes the law provides.
Who publishes it
The publisher's legal entity is not yet published, and neither is the name of a reviewing editor. The site is new: its first pages went live in October 2026 and it has no track record to point to. Those are plain facts about a demonstration build, not modesty. Both details will appear on this page and on the contact page when they exist, and the editorial policy says how pages are prepared and checked in the meantime.
Why there is no advertising and no operator link
Section 87(1) of the Act prohibits gambling advertising on any electronic or other medium without the Authority's approval. Regulation 2 of the Gambling Control (Advertising) Regulations, 2026 (L.N. 114) defines an advertisement as any communication promoting participation in a gambling activity through print, broadcast, outdoor, electronic or digital channels. A commission link to a betting site sits squarely inside that definition. Regulation 9(a) of the same Regulations bars a call to action in an advert, and regulation 8(c) prescribes what an approved advert must carry: the licence number, a responsible gambling message, the licensee's name, address and customer care number, and a helpline. Section 87(4) sets the penalty for breaching the advertising section at a fine of up to KES 20,000,000 and/or 20 years' imprisonment.
This site holds no approval and seeks none. The simplest way to stay on the right side of section 87 is to carry no advertising at all, and that is what it does. How we make money sets out what would have to change first if that position ever changed.
Who it is for
Adults in Kenya who are eighteen or older. Section 72(2) and (3) of the Act require an operator to see proof of age of majority before registering a player, and regulation 92(1)(c) of the Conduct of Gambling Operations Regulations, 2026 (L.N. 112) treats anyone under eighteen as a minor who must be kept out of gambling and of gambling promotion. Nothing here is written to appeal to a younger reader, and the 18+ notice appears on every page.
How to report an error
If a section number is wrong, a figure does not match the gazetted text, or a rule has changed since the page was checked, the corrections page explains what to send and what happens next. Every correction is logged there in public, with the date and the page it touched.
